What better way to gauge how your Sunbelt League defending champions look in the new school year then by playing against one of your neighbors from the Southwestern League. That’s exactly what Temescal Canyons new Head Coach, Chris Wilkeson, had his girls do right out of the gate when they took on Murrieta Valley Tuesday, Aug. 23, at Canyon Lake’s golf course.
This non league bout between the two local schools went the way of Murrieta Valley, who won 244-262, but not without great finishes by some key Lady Titans.
Murrieta Valley’s Venecia Zaia (43) and Brooklyn VanBebber (44) were the top finishers for the Lady Nighthawks as Temescal Canyon’s Jordan Lanouette (41) and Zoey Wilkeson (50) kept their team close with their top finishes.
“This year we have 5 returning seniors in Jordan and Alex Lanouette (twins), Zoey Wilkeson, Haelee Holland and Lexi Hinkley. They are going to be the strength of our team as we set out to accomplish our main goal, which is to defend our Sunbelt League title,” says Coach Wilkeson, who added, “We are looking forward to some tough competition from Elsinore as well as the other teams.”
