Volleyball season is here and three Murrieta teams got off to a good start Tuesday, Aug. 23, routing each of their opponents on their way to win column.

Calvary Murrieta sent their Lady Warriors to California Lutheran in Wildomar and left with a sweep of the C-Hawks, winning three straight sets 25-20, 25-13 and 25-18. Anna Holman and Lizzie McWaters led Calvary Murrieta with 6 kills each while Gabby Gaines got up for two blocks on the day.

Jackie Espinosa and Kati Aguilar had 6 kills of their own for the home team and also held down the fort on the defensive side with 10 digs between the two.

The Lady Warriors play again Thursday, Aug. 25, versus Arrowhead Christian while Cal Lu will take on Linfield Christian.

In a Sunbelt versus Southwestern League match-up, the Lady Rams of Murrieta Mesa took to the road to face off against the Lady Wildcats of Paloma Valley. Both teams are coming off seasons where each team only mustered up 12 wins, but for the Wildcats their wins got them to the post season, and for Murrieta Mesa, their wins only came in the preseason.

With a new coach at the helm – former Chaparral Puma Head Coach Pat Manning – Murrieta Mesa got off to a good start behind the action packed combo of sophomore Kali Uhl and senior Leimomi “Mo” Arscott. The two combined for most of the team’s points, assists and serve returns, while a vast amount of fresh faces to the program helped do their part to secure the 3-1 win. Set scores for the Lady Rams came in at 25-15, 25-16, 23-25 and 25-18.

Casey Cherry (15 kills) and Aeris Woods (12 kills) led all scorers from Paloma Valley while Channa Hart got up for 3 blocks and sophomore Libero, Madison Martinez, kept the Lady Wildcats in the game defensively with 20 digs. Murrieta Mesa will be home Thursday, Aug. 25, to face Riverside Poly and Paloma Valley will travel to Valley View Wednesday, Aug. 24.

Murrieta Valley got off to a great start against Fallbrook Tuesday, Aug. 23, defeating the Lady Warriors in three straight as well, 25-21, 25-20 and 25-19. The Lady Nighthawks will also play Valley View this week, except they will be home Thursday, Aug. 25.
