MURRIETA – A pedestrian check of a person acting suspiciously in Murrieta on Thursday, Feb. 4, led to the discovery of a stolen weapon and other illegal items and the arrest of a wanted felon.

A Murrieta Police officer contacted a subject at about 9:30 a.m., after seeing the man loitering in front of a business in the 40700 block of California Oaks Road. The officer conducted a records check of the subject, who was identified as Rogelio Luis Solis, 30, of Hemet. The records check revealed Solis had two felony warrants and was wanted for crimes he allegedly committed in Texas.

Murrieta Police officers arrested Solis for his felony warrants that listed him as a fugitive from justice.

During a search following his arrest, officers discovered Solis had a loaded firearm hidden in the waistband of his pants. “The handgun was loaded with an illegal high-capacity magazine,”  Sgt. Steve Dyer wrote about the arrest. “Solis is a convicted felon which makes it illegal for him to possess a firearm.”

A records check of the firearm revealed the handgun had been reported stolen in December from the City of Perris.

Officers requested assistance from Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, at which time deputies conducted a follow-up search and investigation at an unspecified residence in Hemet, where Solis reportedly lived. During their search, deputies located numerous additional illegal items, such as a bulletproof vest and taser.

Officers transported Solis to the Southwest Detention Center where he was booked for being a felon in possession of a concealed firearm, possession of a stolen firearm, and possession of a large capacity magazine. Solis was also booked for his two felony warrants.

A jail records search showed Solis was being held without bail. “He will likely be extradited to Texas to face charges related to his felony warrants,” Dyer wrote about Solis.
