Patchy frost is expected to develop early today in the Coachella Valley and once again in the valleys around Riverside, but forecasters said the cold morning would give way to sunnier and warmer conditions.

A National Weather Service frost advisory for the Coachella Valley and valleys around Riverside is scheduled to expire at 9 a.m. today. Early morning temperatures between 30 and 36 degrees were forecast.

“Frost is likely in the wind-sheltered valleys of San Diego and Riverside counties, the lower Coachella Valley and the San Diego County deserts,” according to the weather service.

Residents in the affected areas were again urged to cover sensitive outdoor vegetation, bring pets indoors and place farm animals in barns.

But forecasters said temperatures early this morning were running slightly higher than at about the same time on Tuesday, likely because higher humidity and dew points were not allowing the mercury to plummet as much.

Despite the cold start, the day is expected to get sunnier and warmer, according to the NWS. High temperature today are expected to be 56 to 64 degrees in the valleys, 44 to 50 degrees in the mountains, 58 to 63 degrees along the San Gorgonio Pass and around 64 degrees in the Coachella Valley
