Being that they are fresh off their 3-2, 10 inning CIF-SS Division 1 Championship win over Harvard-Westlake Saturday, June 4, the Murrieta Mesa varsity baseball team will be honored in many upcoming celebrations.
The first of the recognition ceremonies took place at the City of Murrieta’s most recent City Council meeting, held Tuesday, June 7, at City Hall. Head Coach Bryn Wade was given a plaque by City Council members honoring the team for their tremendous accolades this season, which included winning the programs first ever Southwestern League title as well as their recent CIF Championship.
On Thursday, June 9, at 5 p.m. MAXX Pizza in Murrieta will be hosting a celebration for the Rams and Mayor Randon Lane will be on hand at 6:15 p.m. to congratulate the Rams on their season. Championship gear will also be available for purchase, ring sizing will take place, a live DJ will be spinning some tunes and the CIF-SS Championship game, which will be being replayed on Fox Sports West, will be on all the TV’s for attendees to watch.
“I have been pondering different ways for us to find closure to such an amazing year for Mesa athletics,” says Murrieta Mesa Athletic Director, John Broussard. “I believe this event is that opportunity. We want to invite all members of the community to just come out and get dinner and celebrate this awesome baseball team and all of our Mesa Athletics.”
The varsity baseball team will also be honored at an upcoming Lake Elsinore Storm game and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have also offered the boys two opportunities to be recognized Thursday, June 23, against the Oakland Athletics and Monday, June 27, against the Houston Astros.
The Valley News will update any future events as they become available.
A message from Coach Wade that he posted on social media:
Thank you Murrieta! Making Murrieta a “green town” has never been my goal as the coach at Murrieta Mesa. Murrieta is a Navy Blue, Red, and Green town as evidenced by our title run which was supported by so many members of our community, especially by those who have a stake in the other two high schools in town. It is an honor to add to the long standing traditions of winning at Murrieta Valley and Vista Murrieta. It is counterintuitive to think we are battling each other, rather than representing this great area.
“With quality academics, quality faculty and staff, quality performing arts programs, and quality athletics, the families in Murrieta can be confident that they live in the best community for promoting excellence among teenagers in Southern California.”
I love that the Murrieta community understands that the student-athlete is both student and athlete simultaneously and not one before the other. Excellence in both is encouraged and for the most part supported at school sites.
Kudos to MV girls water polo for winning the CIF D2 championship. It was great to share the honor with you at last night’s city hall meeting.
Murrieta, what a great place to be!
