TEMECULA – Investigators from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Temecula Police Station, with assistance from agents from the Federal Bureau of investigation served a search warrant at a residence in the 30000 block of Island Bay Drive, Tuesday, May 3. The home where officials served the warrant is an unincorporated area of Murrieta.
The warrant was related to an ongoing investigation of a bank robbery that occurred at Chase Bank, located in the 32000 block of Temecula Parkway, in Temecula. The warrant was served exactly 8 months to the day after the 6 p.m. robbery that occurred Sept. 3, the previous year.
Investigators arrested two men after the search warrant service. Matthew Geyer, 35, and Alejandro Gonzalez, 29, both of Murrieta, were arrested and later booked for a variety of charges, according to Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant Steve Fredericks.
During the service of the search warrant, investigators located and recovered “evidence related to the original robbery; as well as illegal firearms, a large amount of cash, illegal narcotics, and evidence indicating illicit narcotics activity,” at the Murrieta residence, Fredricks wrote in a press release. The Riverside Sheriff’s Southwest County Narcotics Task Force assisted investigators with the narcotics aspect of the investigation.
Deputies from Temecula PD responded to the bank robbery after receiving a 911 call reporting the incident.
During their initial investigation, deputies learned Geyer fled the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash. Investigators responded and assumed the investigation.
During their lengthy and thorough investigation, sheriff’s and FBI officials developed investigative leads that led to the service of the search warrant. Based on evidence recovered during the warrant service, both suspects were arrested and booked at the Southwest Detention Center.
A jail records search revealed Geyer was booked on one count of second-degree robbery. He was released the same day after posting $30,000 bail and is scheduled to be arraigned at the Southwest Justice Center June 28.
According to Fredricks, Gonzalez was booked for narcotics related charges. However, a jail records search did not reveal any information about his arrest or pending court case.
